I Haven’t Always Been Good With Tools
My name is Doug, and have always had a passion for working on my car. I am not a professional mechanic, but enjoy the challenge of being able to complete a repair, knowing i have done it myself., but most importantly, knowing it was done properly, educating myself to how parts and components work , which lubricants and oils to use,, gaining experience along the way.
My garage isn’t big, but I’ve learned to adapt to a single brick garage with relative ease. There are certain skills to acquire lifting up with the jack in limited space. This all comes with practice.
Being successful with the tools didn’t come easily to me. I learned how to use certain ratchets, sockets and especially torque wrenches, which, if not used correctly, can turn a really good, into a really bad day in a matter of seconds.
Be Intimate With Your Car
No, i don’t mean that way., but familiarize yourself with how your car works. When you are driving, hitting certain bumps, does your car squeak, or grind?. At the least, if you don’t want to attempt the repairs yourself, educate yourself with some ammunition, so the next time you visit your local mechanic, you will know if they are telling you the truth
.I have nothing against professional mechanics. They need to make a dollar just like the rest of us. Doing it yourself though, you are in control of everything that goes on with your car.
Why Is Doing It Yourself Important?
I want to help you save money, knowing and choosing what parts go on your car, but most importantly the next time your car breaks down, you will be in a much better position trying to repair it ,
The repairs i do on my car, I’ve never thought about documenting until i made this website. A lot of the information I’ve found has been not the best. I want to document each step and tool, no matter how insignificant or trivial.
Meet My Helper Charity
You will see Charity floating around in the backyard. Sometimes, she pokes her head inside the shed and wonders what i’m up to.
Charity was found in an abandoned house She has had a little bit of a rough start in life. She was found with a bunch of other little friends, some also Pomeranians, others mixed breeds.
Charity may not be good on the tools, but she has a cuddle and a pat packed in her tool kit ready to go.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.
All the best,
Doug
